Hexham's only dedicated vegetarian & vegan café

Located in the picturesque area of St Mary's Chare just off the Market Place, The Hextol Tans is Hexham's only exclusively vegetarian and vegan cafe. Come inside and enjoy freshly prepared food in the calm interior or take a seat outside and watch the world go by! As well as vegetarian and vegan cuisine, we offer gluten free options as well as lighter bites for smaller appetites.

Well behaved dogs are welcome - your four legged friends can join you and enjoy a complimentary biscuit!

We're always very mindful of the lack of choice on offer for vegetarians and vegans. We serve a varied selection of dishes which are inspired by cuisine from around the world.

A cafe with a social purpose

Our team in the cafe really sets us apart. As an integral part of The Hextol Foundation, we provide supported work placements for people with learning difficulties or mental health problems, or sometimes a combination of both conditions. The Hextol Foundation took over the running of the Tans in 2016, immediately making improvements to the menu. We have gathered momentum since then and have many regular customers. Support us

It costs about £40 per hour to provide a supported work placement to our beneficiaries. Any donations received would go towards the work not only of The Hextol Tans but also to support the other non profit enterprises that make up The Hextol Foundation.
